Just in case you’ve been living in the woods for the past couple of weeks, foraging for sustenance from the wild, and haven’t heard the news: there’s been a bit of an economic downturn.
Pundits will forever argue as to whether it is a recession, depression, slump, etc. But the bottom line is that your bottom line is probably hurting right about now. Unemployment is up, spending is down, credit is all but frozen which all mean tough times for those at the bottom of the economic food chain.
But at least they have company. It isn’t as though the wealthy are getting out of this unscathed. I know that it is hard for us to even comprehend much less have pity for the “poor” billionaire who has taken a $1 billion dollar paper loss over the past few weeks, but it is a reality.
Even the upper middle class is feeling the brunt. This could be a reason why I have noticed several businesses in particular have been getting a lot of attention lately.
The first of these is E-CarOne of Dallas, Texas. This business is a used car dealer, but don’t show up hoping to slap down a couple of hundred bucks to ride off on a vacuum cleaner with a radio. E-CarOne specializes in selling used luxury cars. Everything from BMW to Mercedes to Porsche can all be found. E-CarOne “deals almost exclusively in Lease Vehicles. These are lease returns, Bank repossessions, corporate fleet cars and distressed Liquidation units from various bank & financial institutions.”
Similarly, DFW Elite Car Club (www.dfwelitecarclub.com) and its sister companies; DFW Elite Auto Rental (www.dfweliteautorental.com) and DFW Drive Your Dream (www.dfwdriveyourdream.com) specialize in hooking up fans of exotic cars who don’t have the cash to purchase exotic cars or simply don’t want to deal with the hassle that comes with owning hard-to-find automobiles.
DFW Elite Car Club offers memberships to a car club that has dozens of exotic cars in its inventory. Members then purchase a specific amount of points that can be redeemed for drive time with the car of their choosing.DFW Elite Auto Rental rents exotic cars to customers for shorter term uses. They offer different rates depending on whether the car is used during the week or on the weekend.
Finally, DFW Drive Your Dream offers exotic car tours that allow participants to spend 4 or 8 hour stints behind the wheel of five exotic cars.
All of these businesses stand to prosper in times where new exotic cars are not exactly flying off of dealership floors. So maybe you won’t have to spend the foreseeable future scooting around on that vacuum cleaner after all.
